Through the Weeds

This exhibit, Through the Weeds, was created as an abstract diary of my life over the past few years at Rowan University. Through ups and downs, and stories I’m not yet ready to tell, I’ve poured my heart into my work to create paintings that one can project themselves into. All of our lives are so diverse and full of unique struggles and experiences that what we interpret art as can be so personal. By presenting a series of paintings that feel like a journey through otherworldly environments my aim was for us to recognize ourselves in them too. My work often explores themes of identity in ways that remove real world associations by distorting color and human form so that in an intangible way we can see our own aspects in them. Other symbols in my work are meant to evoke different feelings from comfort to distress as their meanings change from person to person, and even to myself as I learned and experienced more in my process. Through the Weeds is meant to highlight silver linings in times of conflict. That in contrast to these dire moments we can recognize the strongest relationships, deepest values, and personal strengths that help us understand our own natures. As much as I was inspired by my own life, I made it for you too, so I invite you to come through the weeds with me.
