About

Liz Kenlan is an artist and New Jersey native who recently graduated with a B.F.A. at Rowan University where she received a half tuition award for her entrance portfolio. She has always been driven to create and was naturally led to follow in her grandmother’s footsteps, pursuing an education and career in art and illustration. Although she is primarily a painter and illustrator, she tends to enthusiastically involve herself in a wide range of creative pursuits and has varying degrees of experience in graphic design, fashion, set design, and sculptural mediums such as woodworking, masonry, and welding.

Through her works she aims to push past reality to create worlds more fantastical, fun, or provoking. The visual influences her work draws from are classic storybook illustrations as well as fantastic art genres such as lowbrow, macabre, surrealist and pop surrealist art. Her application of mediums such as oil paint, gouache, watercolor, and ink, allow for a break from normality by distorting elements of her work in fantastic ways. These surreal elements within her work are often used to visualize abstract or non-physical concepts such as relationships, nostalgia, psychological processes, and social stigma. Currently she is working as a freelance artist and selling vintage and reworked clothes through her brand, DeadHouse.
